Pretti Response – Central Missouri AACN Chapter

Posted 15 days ago by Karen Butkievich

We support our national organization’s response to the loss of Alex Pretti and would like to repost the American Association of Critical-Care Nursing’s complete response and resources below. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to support our patients and colleagues.

"Dear AACN Community Members,

Like many others, we are distressed by the loss of life during recent federal enforcement operations, including that of critical care nurse Alex Pretti. We recognize the profound complexity of the circumstances and how it reminds us that fear, conflict and unrest have lasting effects on our community. In adhering to the Code of Ethics for Nurses, we call for the de-escalation of harm and a complete, transparent investigation.

Your voice as a nurse and member of our community is of vital importance. As a non-partisan organization representing over 500,000 individuals, AACN respects that each member has their own values, beliefs and passions. As we approach the next steps, we must be intentional and focused on meaningful actions and solutions, and engage with our fellow nursing organizations and critical care colleagues as we navigate a path forward.

Nurses are consistently recognized as the nation’s most trusted professionals, giving us a vital role in leading conversations on healthcare and social justice. Our trusted perspective is essential for guiding ethical, compassionate and effective responses to complex issues. This includes upholding the dignity and respect of all and advocating for systems that protect both community safety and human rights.
